New Airframe: Flite Test Explorer

Overview

This brief post will outline my criteria for selecting the aircraft to use as the test platform for the system.

Flite Test Explorer

My criteria for choosing a testing platform were:

  1. Easy to fly
  2. Easy to build/rebuild
  3. Flexible payload
  4. Lots of interior space
The Flite Test Explorer hit all of those boxes. This aircraft took about 6 hours to put together and had good stability in flight. I chose to go with the Power Pack C motor option which gave it a decent amount of power and allowed it to carry a considerable amount of weight while still having thrust to spare.

The other big benefit of this aircraft is the pusher prop design. By having the prop in the back of the aircraft, it became safer to fly and test with.

In the future, I'd like to mount the platform on a less stable or potentially unstable vehicle, but the first step is a stable aircraft.
